Job summary

Harbor Group Management in Herndon, VA seeks a skilled Building Engineer to operate, inspect and maintain HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire/life safety systems under the Chief Engineer. You will ensure efficient operation of a large Class A office building and optimize life expectancy through proactive care.

The role emphasizes safety compliance, responsive tenant service and hands-on preventive maintenance, with compensation based on experience and eligibility for a discretionary

Qualifications

  • 2 years of technical experience in all aspects of building engineering.
  • Strong background in HVAC, plumbing, electrical equipment maintenance.
  • Must be willing to work on call as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains HVAC and MEP equipment under the direction of the Chief Engineer.
  • Maintains positive tenant relations by responding promptly to requests.
  • Operates equipment to ensure proper building functions.
  • Maintains professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Remains calm in emergency situations.
  • Complies with safety and environmental laws and codes.
  • Performs general maintenance and limited operations of HVAC/MEP under supervision.
  • Assists in ordering, stocking and inventory of parts.
  • Induces water treatment chemicals at proper amounts and times.
  • Performs chemical analysis tests and reports abnormalities.
  • Completes preventive and repair work orders on systems.

Job description

Compensation: Hourly rate will be based on experience and qualification match. Position is eligible for discretionary bonus.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for operating, inspecting and maintaining all HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire/life safety equipment and systems in a large Class A office building and obtaining the most efficient operating results and life expectancy, under the guidance and direction of the Chief Engineer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following but are not limited to the job specifications contained herein. Additional duties or job functions that can be performed safely may be required as deemed necessary by Harbor Group Management Company.

  • Operates and maintains all HVAC and MEP equipment under the direction of the Chief Engineer.
  • Develops and maintains positive tenant relations through prompt, courteous response to tenant requests.
  • Operates equipment as necessary within the guidelines set forth by the Chief Engineer to assure proper building functions.
  • Maintains professional appearance and manner at all times while in the complex.
  • Maintains calm demeanor in emergency situations.
  • Assists in complying with all City, State and Federal safety and environmental laws, codes, standards and regulations.
  • Performs general maintenance and limited operations of the HVAC and MEP equipment under the supervision and direction of the Chief Engineer.
  • Assists in the ordering, stocking and inventory of parts and supplies as directed by the Chief Engineer.
  • Induces water treatment chemicals in the heating and cooling systems at the proper amounts and times.
  • Performs chemical analysis tests as set forth by the supervisor, reporting any abnormalities and substandard results
  • Performance of ongoing preventive and repair response work orders on building and tenant mechanical, electrical and other installed systems, equipment, and other components.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 Years of technical experience in all aspects of building engineering.
