Job summary

Elgin Community College is seeking a Building Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of campus facilities. The role emphasizes multi-craft work to ensure safe, efficient building operations and energy conservation on campus.

The position is full-time with a schedule of M-F 3:00pm-11:00pm, offering a starting salary of $78,312 and a comprehensive benefits package as outlined by the college and applicable bargaining agreements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in commercial building maintenance.
  • Reading, writing and English speaking skills.
  • Must be able to work in varying physical environments, including heights and outside weather.
  • Must have a valid Illinois driver's license.
  • Must be able to be contacted by telephone for emergencies, and respond within 30 minutes.
  • Must be able to work from a ladder.
  • Must be able to stand on feet at least 8 hours.
  • Experience with steam and hot water boilers.
  • Knowledge of water treatment.
  • Able to lift 100 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in multi-craft work assigned by Manager of Plant Operations.
  • Operate, maintain and repair equipment.
  • Operate and maintain all HVAC equipment.
  • Maintain and repair lab and kitchen equipment.
  • Maintain and repair building plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Perform controlled maintenance inspections to keep equipment in safe order.
  • Perform remodeling and construction within developed skills.
  • Conserve energy across utilities.

Job description

Support the operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of campus facilities through a variety of skilled trades to help ensure safe and efficient building operations while promoting energy conservation across campus.

Rate of Pay:

This is a Full-Time Building Engineer position with a starting salary of $78,312. The salary offer is in alignment with the College’s compensation philosophy and the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), if applicable.

Job Summary:

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

a. Electrical up to 480 volts
b. HVAC controls
c. Kitchen equipment
d. Steam and hot water boilers
e. Absorbers and chillers
12. Must have an EPA - Refrigerant Recovery Act - Universal

Essential Duties:

1. Engage in multi-craft work assigned by Manager of Plant Operations.
2. Operate, maintain and repair equipment.
3. Operate and maintain all H.V.A.C equipment.
4. Maintain and repair lab and kitchen equipment.
5. Maintain and repair building plumbing and electrical systems.
6. Engage in controlled maintenance inspections and perform the
necessary work to keep all equipment in safe and efficient
operating order.
7. Perform remodeling and construction work within the scope of
developed skills.
8. Must perform duties in a manner so as to conserve energy of
all utilities.

Other Duties:

1. Learn new skills through "on the job" experience as well as
through formal and informal training.
2. Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Plant
Operations.
