Job summary

Elgin Community College seeks a Career Training Coordinator to develop and manage 30-40 non-credit courses that lead to industry credentials and improve student employability. You will research high-demand fields, align curricula with credentialing requirements, and evaluate instructors to ensure quality.

Responsibilities include maintaining records, applying ICCB approvals when needed, and coordinating budgets and class offerings with academic and community partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training/education and experience.
  • Four years of experience leading development of short-term career and professional development training programs.
  • Understanding of credentialing requirements across multiple industries and ICCB standards.
  • Ability to align curricula to credentialing bodies and manage multiple trainings.
  • Experience budgeting up to $75,000 and coordinating instructors.

Rate Of Pay

This is a Full-Time Support Staff position at grade 15, with an annual salary range of $63,042 to $84,056. The salary offer will be based on education and experience, in alignment with the College’s compensation philosophy and the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), if applicable.

Job Summary

The Career Training Coordinator develops, promotes, implements, and manages a portfolio of 30-40 competitively priced non credit professional learning courses and programs that lead to industry recognized credentials and support or enhance student employability. Responsibilities include researching high demand fields and their credentialing requirements; aligning curriculum with those requirements; evaluating instructor qualifications and experience; maintaining records in accordance with college policy; and, when applicable, preparing Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) applications for courses to ensure eligibility for 1.6 apportionment. General supervision is received by the assigned manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training/education and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and at least four years of experience leading the development and continuous improvement of short-term career and professional development training programs resulting in industry-recognized credentials across an array of clinical and technical industries
  • Demonstrated understanding of new and emerging entry-level career opportunities across multiple industries and the training and the credentialing needed for students to enter these career paths and obtain employment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience leading the alignment of curriculum to test-based credentials offered by industry-recognized credentialing organizations and to the Illinois Community College Board standards
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage multiple training programs simultaneously
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in identifying potential, verifying credentials, negotiating pay, and hiring subject matter experts/presenters.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide students through the complex requirements of credential-oriented programs to maximize student success
  • Strong commitment to professional development and learning
  • Strong collaboration skills with internal departments and external organizations to meet the credentialing needs of students
  • Demonstrated ability to network with potential instructors at various education and experience levels
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing project budgets up to $75,000
  • Knowledge and experience working with the community

  • Demonstrated ability in problem-solving around class development and resolving student challenges
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is necessary. Strong customer service and financial and organizational skills are required.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends when required by the department’s needs.
Essential Duties

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ensure that the college has a robust portfolio of short-term, credential-oriented professional development training classes by leading the research and development of in-demand programs across a variety of industries (i.e., manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, information technology, etc.). Ensure the curriculum meets the requirements outlined by the appropriate industry-recognized credentialing body and the Illinois Community College Board by writing and submit proposals for industry-recognized credentialing and ICCB approval.
  • Ensure profitability for the Career Training component of the auxiliary Corporate & Continuing Education unit by managing class-related budgets, analyzing and recommending tuition rates, negotiating costs for supplies and textbooks with vendors and instruction with presenters, and determining minimum seat counts. In cooperation with the Director, ensure that class budgets meet the goals of the department and the college.
  • Help students achieve in-demand credentials in professions that meet their skills and interests through recruitment of students via hosting of information sessions and participation in community events, including providing information to students on job prospects in various fields and the skills needed to be successful. Also includes recruitment through the development of marketing programs promoting class schedules, and conveying similar information in print and digital media,
  • Nurture and enable a continuous improvement plan for initiating regular reviews of the curriculum to ensure compliance with standards related to content, instruction, testing, and record keeping as required by ICCB and industry-recognized credentialing bodies and integrating changes.
  • Develop a diverse roster of presenters in each curriculum area by recruiting local instructors and managing training agreements with the instructors. Ensure the quality of each class by providing performance feedback based on student evaluations, and in collaboration with the Director, make decisions about renewing or ending instructor agreements.
  • Ensure the college is meeting grant requirements, local labor market demand, and community partner requests by identifying strategic opportunities for class development in partnership with the Dean and Director.
  • Ensure record-keeping of the required documentation in accordance with the policies of ICCB and the appropriate credentialing body by overseeing the collection of class rosters, attendance, program evaluations, and grades.
  • Work with students and employers to troubleshoot registration and payment issues, resolve challenges associated with obtaining or accessing materials. Engage with students to recommend and provide resources for overcoming obstacles to learning and class completion.
