Job summary

Elgin Community College seeks a part-time Support Staff member to develop and facilitate co-curricular programs, community service and outreach, and student leadership opportunities that create a campus climate supporting student development.

The role reports to an assigned manager and requires a flexible schedule including days/evenings/weekends. Pay ranges from $30.61 to $40.82 per hour with benefits and eligibility per the college and CBA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Knowledge of Student Development theory.
  • Experience in planning and implementing events of all sizes.
  • Service and advocacy experience.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and oversee community engagement experiences. Assist in the development and implementation of outreach programs such as Sexual assault Awareness and Domestic Violence Awareness programming, Project Backpack, Trustee Scholars, Mental and physical Health programs.
  • Facilitate the partnership between Student Life and community organizations, campus departments and classroom instruction with intentional co-curriculum programming supporting the strategic plan and learning outcomes.
  • Develop and facilitate co-curricular programs (e.g., Make A Difference Week, Welcome Weeks, Big Event, Suicide Prevention Day, volunteer and basic needs fairs, etc.) to foster community engagement and awareness.
  • Implement a comprehensive service learning/volunteer development program to enhance student volunteer program opportunities and foster student leadership development.
  • Assist with advising, training or development of particular student groups (e.g., Organization of Latin American Students, College Programming Board, Student Government members, etc.). Provide guidance to student groups, facilitate activities and events.
  • Coordinate other Student Life programs, (e.g., Legal Clinics, HIV/AIDS Awareness, Blood Drives, Trustee Academic Scholars, Welcome Weeks, Student Recognition Programs, Volunteer Programs, etc.). Maintain information posted on the Student Life website and social media.
  • Develop assessment techniques to determine success of established programs. Track participants progress and analyze results to recommend program improvements.

Work Schedule:

PT Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.

Rate of Pay:

This is a Part-Time Support Staff position at grade 15, with an hourly pay rate of $30.61 to $40.82. The offer will be based on education and experience, in alignment with the College’s compensation philosophy and the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), if applicable.

Job Summary:

An employee in this classification performs work of moderate difficulty developing and facilitating co-curricular programs, community service and outreach programs, student leadership opportunities, and an overall campus climate that fosters student development. Direction is received by assigned manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • 1. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • 2. Knowledge of Student Development theory.
  • 3. Experience in planning and implementing events of all sizes
  • 4. Service and advocacy experience.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Masters degree in College Student Personnel or related field.
  • 2. Leadership experience or training.
  • 3. Experience as a Student Organization Advisor.
  • 4. Experience in a higher education student activities office (work experience or solid student leadership experience).
  • 5. Experience working with community partners.
Essential Duties:

  • 4. Implement a comprehensive service learning/volunteer development program to enhance student volunteer program opportunities and foster student leadership development.
  • 5. Assist with advising, training or development of particular student groups (e.g., Organization of Latin American Students, College Programming Board, Student Government members, etc.). Provide guidance to student groups, facilitate activities and events.
