Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. invites applications for an Building Enclosure Engineer-in-Training I to join the Building Enclosure Services team on-site in the United States.

The role supports evaluating, designing, testing, and reviewing building enclosure systems to ensure performance, durability, energy efficiency, and resilience across diverse projects. The candidate should have an engineering degree and a willingness to learn, with preference for familiarity with enclosure standards and field

Qualifications

  • MS or BS in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, or Bachelor of Architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn basics of design and analysis within the discipline.
  • Familiarity with ASTM, AAMA, IIBEC, and ASHRAE preferred.
  • Willingness to perform field work, including climbing ladders and working at heights.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration across disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering principles to roofing, walls, glazing, waterproofing, and air/vapor control systems.
  • Conduct peer reviews of drawings and specs; flag coordination issues.
  • Review submittals and shop drawings for conformance.
  • Develop and execute test procedures for enclosure systems.
  • Perform construction site visits to verify performance and test in the field.
  • Support condition surveys and assist with failure investigations.
  • Assist in developing repair designs under supervision.
  • Learn enclosure-related software and tools and use SSR policies.
