Job summary

Longmeadow Public School District in Longmeadow, MA is hiring a Building Custodian - Floater to maintain a safe, clean school environment across buildings. The role reports to Head Building Custodian/Facilities Director and requires willingness to work overtime and cover events.

Starting date To Be Determined; qualifications include a High School diploma, ability to lift 50–60 pounds, good communication, and health clearance. Salary is set by the Longmeadow Education Association agreement.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma desirable.
  • Satisfactory health as evidenced through physical examination by physician.
  • Must be able to lift 50–60 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all staff.
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

  • Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
  • Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
  • Shovels, operates snow blower and/or sands walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as appropriate.
  • Checks daily to insure all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
  • Sweeps classrooms daily, and dusts furniture.
  • Cleans corridors each day.
  • Scrubs and disinfects toilet floors, sanitary fixtures, and drinking fountains daily.
  • Washes windows inside and out, as needed.
  • Keeps grounds free of rubbish.
  • Performs such yard-keeping chores as mowing, shrub trimming and the like as necessary to maintain the school grounds.
  • Makes minor building and equipment repairs as he/she is capable of.
  • Remains on the premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the Principal.
  • Reports immediately to the Head Custodian, how reports to the Principal, any damage to school property.
  • Assumes responsibility for the opening and/or closing of the building and determining that all doors and windows are secured and that all non-essential lights and mechanical equipment are turned off.
  • Moves furniture and equipment within the building for various activities as directed by the Principal.
  • Complies with local laws for the storage and disposal of trash.
  • Use equipment, tools, and materials normally associated with custodian work.
  • Must be willing to work overtime in emergency situations and to cover special events.
  • Such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

JOB MISSION:To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.

SALARY RANGE:In accordance with the current Agreement between the Longmeadow Education Association (Unit H) and the Longmeadow School Committee.
