Job summary

Longmeadow Public Schools is seeking a Middle Level - ELA Coordinator for a 1-year stipend position. The role coordinates curriculum, instruction and assessment, supporting professional growth and alignment across schools.

The incumbent will report to the Superintendent and Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, starting immediately. This part-time stipend position includes collaboration with staff, parents, and the community to improve student learning.

Qualifications

  • Massachusetts Elementary Teacher Certification is required.
  • Masters degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of five years experience teaching at elementary level.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement, systems dynamics, and current learning theory preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with and facilitate the work of others.
  • Current employment in the Longmeadow Public Schools.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

Job Description

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools / Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment

JOB GOAL: To improve student learning through the coordination and support of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional growth in Science. Co-chair Science cycle review committee

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES In ELA:

  1. Apply principles of continuous improvement, systems dynamics, current learning theory, and curriculum integration to our instructional improvement processes.
  2. With the appropriate involvement of staff, parents, students, and other coordinators and department chairs, coordinate district planning and implementation of a comprehensive curriculum that is aligned across schools and between grade levels.
  3. Keep current on curriculum standards, materials and instruction and recommend appropriate changes to staff and schools.
  4. Act as a resource person and consultant to teachers, administrators, and community on maintaining and improving curriculum and instruction.
  5. Coordinate, facilitate, and participate in curriculum development meetings and actions that support these.
  6. Advise the Superintendent and Professional Growth Committees on appropriate professional development programs.
  7. Provide information about the instructional program to School Committee, staff, students, parents, and community.
  8. Analyze assessment results and coordinate reporting to the School Committee, Superintendent, staff, and public.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a stipended position, in addition to regular teaching responsibilities. The position carries a 1-year stipend per the Unit A contract. Three days (19.5 hours) of additional service beyond the length of the Unit A contract is required, to be paid at the per diem rate, and to be scheduled at times mutually agreed upon. A substitute teacher will be provided during the school year, as mutually agreed upon, for related responsibilities.

STARTING DATE: Fiscal Year 2027
