Job summary

Northeast Community College in West Point, NE seeks a Building Construction Trainer to deliver high-quality instruction and hands-on training in carpentry and related trades at the West Point Extended Campus.

Under minimal supervision, the trainer develops curriculum aligned with industry standards, supports student success, and integrates safety, codes, and emerging technologies into the program, across residential and commercial settings.

Qualifications

Job description

Northeast Community College is seeking an individual to fill a Building Construction Trainer position at the West Point Extended Campus.

This position is an in-person, on-campus position.

Under minimal supervision, the Building Construction Trainer is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and hands‑on training in carpentry and related construction fields across a variety of instructional formats and locations. The trainer will support student learning and success while developing, maintaining, and enhancing training curriculum aligned with industry standards and workforce needs.

Instructional emphasis includes residential and commercial construction practices, construction materials and methods, blueprint reading, framing, finishing, project layout, tool and equipment operation, and workplace safety. The trainer will provide students with hands‑on learning opportunities through construction projects while developing competencies in building trades skills and industry best practices. The trainer will also integrate occupational safety standards, emerging construction technologies, and workforce readiness skills into the training program.

Education:

Associate degree in Construction Technology, Building Construction, Carpentry, or a closely related field required. Bachelor's degree preferred. A combination of industry certifications and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree.

Experience:

Minimum of three years of hands‑on experience in the construction industry. Experience in residential and commercial construction, project supervision, apprenticeship training, workforce development, or construction trades education preferred.

Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, carpentry principles, and building trade practices.
  • Proficiency in reading and applying construction codes, blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety and health standards as they relate to construction and shop environments.
  • Ability to safely operate and instruct students in the use of construction equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information verbally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers, industry software, and instructional technologies.
  • Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with industry, community organizations, and area high schools.
  • Commitment to supporting student success and workforce development initiatives.
Special Instructions to Applicant:

Applicants selected for an interview may be expected to provide a 10-15 minute teaching demonstration or presentation on a construction-related topic.
