Job summary

Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee, Inc. is seeking a Skilled Trades Trainer to lead NCCER Core Curriculum instruction, safety training, and hands‑on construction learning for program participants at Cockrill Bend - Career Solutions.

The ideal candidate has strong carpentry skills, multi‑trade expertise, and leadership to prepare trainees for entry‑level construction jobs; OSHA 10 is required, OSHA 30 preferred, and a valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

  • Strong carpentry background; multi-trade knowledge highly preferred.
  • Experience with NCCER Core Curriculum and safety training is a plus.
  • OSHA 10 certification is required; OSHA 30 strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver NCCER Core Curriculum content aligned with NCCER standards.
  • Provide training in construction safety, tool operation, construction math, blueprint reading, and employability skills.
  • Conduct limited hands-on skills training to reinforce classroom instruction.
  • Maintain thorough class preparation and effective lesson planning.
  • Establish supportive relationships with trainees to help meet educational and career goals.
  • Model professionalism and teamwork to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Coordinate with local construction employers to expose trainees to entry-level opportunities.
  • Support field trips, job shadowing, and industry engagement activities.

Job Summary

The Skilled Trades Trainer works closely with Skilled Trades Program Manager to maintain NCCER Core Curriculum standards, provide high-quality instruction, support trainees’ career goals, and build relationships with local construction employers to create exposure to entry-level employment opportunities. The ideal candidate is an experienced construction professional with strong carpentry skills, additional expertise in at least one other trade, and proven leadership experience.

Job Description
Essential Functions
  • Prepare and deliver instructional content for the NCCER Core Curriculum, ensuring alignment with NCCER standards
  • Provide training in construction safety, tool operation, construction math, blueprint reading, employability skills and related topics.
  • Conduct limited hands‑on skills training to reinforce classroom instructions
  • Maintain thorough and accurate class preparation
  • Establish supportive relationships with trainees to help them meet educational, personal, and career goals.
  • Model professionalism, teamwork, and clear communication to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Maintain composure and effectively resolve conflicts as they arise.
  • Assist with all program-related administrative tasks, documentation, and record keeping.
  • At the direction of program management, contact, and coordinate with local construction employers to create exposure to entry-level construction and general labor careers.
  • Support field trips, job shadowing, and industry engagement activities for trainees.
  • Support Goodwill mission projects as assigned, including class led construction projects.
  • Ensure safe practices and adherence to OSA and NCCER guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education
  • High School diploma or GED certificate
  • NCCER certified or will acquire within three months of employment
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in construction with an advanced skillset in at least 1 of the following: Rough Framing, Finish carpentry, Drywall, Electrical, Plumbing, Solar Installation, or Welding.
Knowledge /Skills
  • Strong carpentry background; multi-trade knowledge highly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation and public speaking.
  • Ability to maintain calm, professional conduct, and manage conflict effectively.
  • Understanding of construction safety, tools, equipment, and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of career and technical education pathways.
  • Familiarity with CaseWorthy or applicant tracking systems (ATS) for data management
  • Current and valid driver's license is required.
  • Customer-focused and student-centered approach to instruction.

  • Additional trade certifications or instructional credentials are a plus
