Job summary

The Town of Mooresville is seeking a Building Code Official I, II, or III to inspect residential, commercial, and industrial properties and ensure compliance with building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and related codes.

As part of the Building & Inspections Department, you review plans, approve documents, issue violations, investigate complaints, and coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the design and construction process.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree required for Building Code Official I; higher degrees preferred for II/III.
• Experience requirements range from 1–2 years (I) to 4–5 years (III) in construction or building management.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections on residential, commercial, and industrial projects to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
• Review construction documents and approve plans as applicable.
• Issue notices of violations, including stop work orders, and follow up to ensure issues have been addressed.
• Investigate complaints about potential code violations or in response to a specific incident.
• Meet with architects, engineers, contractors, and other individuals throughout the design and construction process.
• Prepare and analyze inspection reports, including collecting data and writing reports.
• Provide advice to design professionals, homeowners, the general public, and contractors regarding code compliance, applicable procedures, and related issues.
• Provide office support as needed, including answering phones, replying to emails, and assisting customers in person.
• Perform other tasks as required.
