Job summary

Moore County is seeking a Building Inspector I to perform technical work inspecting building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems for compliance with state and local codes. Work is under regular supervision of the Inspections Supervisor.

Opportunities exist through higher steps with increased pay and certification requirements. The role requires knowledge of codes, ability to read plans, and strong communication with owners and contractors.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; two years of related construction experience or equivalent training.
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute experience per step requirements.
• Must obtain four probationary certifications and one Level I certification as specified by NC Code Qualifications Board.

Responsibilities

• Inspect residential and commercial electrical, building, plumbing, and mechanical systems for compliance with codes.
• Read plans, specifications and blueprints; compare with construction in progress.
• Communicate with owners, contractors and public to maintain professional relationships.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Associate Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Construction, or related field

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering, Architecture, or related field
