Job summary

University of Minnesota is seeking a Civil Service professional to inspect and evaluate building systems, oversee construction compliance, and review plans across Minnesota University properties. The role requires licensing, extensive field experience, and collaboration with architects, engineers, and facilities managers.

Responsibilities include on-site inspections, plan reviews, and advisory support on MSBC compliance, with a focus on safety, accessibility, and quality across diverse campus

Qualifications

• Associate's or vocational technical degree with at least seven years of related experience in commercial/institutional plan review, building inspection, and commercial construction, or BA/BS with at least five years of related experience.
• Licensed as Minnesota Certified Building Official and ICC Building Inspector.
• A valid Class D Driver's License is required.

Responsibilities

• 65% - Inspect all permitted building maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel and construction work on University properties statewide; conduct on-site inspections and record results.
• 20% - Review plans and scopes of work prior to permit issuance for code compliance and life safety.
• 15% - Consult with designers, engineers, project managers, and stakeholders on building code requirements.
