Job summary

The City of Bloomington is seeking an experienced inspector to ensure buildings conform to the Minnesota Building Code and approved plans, protecting occupants. You will review permits, inspect structures, issue occupancy certificates, and investigate housing code complaints.

The role requires knowledge of building codes, strong communication with homeowners, architects, engineers, and contractors, plus the ability to maintain inspection logs and stay current with construction practices.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Review permits, plans and specifications for code compliance.
  • Inspect structures, signs, site grading and erosion control for conformance to codes and approved plans.
  • Issue certificates of occupancy.
  • Investigate housing code complaints and determine violations.
  • Interpret city ordinances and state codes for homeowners, architects, engineers, contractors, and developers.
  • Verify contractor licensing and respond to inquiries about building codes.
  • Create and maintain inspection logs and records.
