Job summary

Harris is seeking a Building Automation System Specialist to perform sequence testing, point‑to‑point verification, and develop project graphics for efficient building controls.

You will inspect and diagnose systems at client sites, repair equipment, adjust controls, document activities, and train staff to improve efficiency. An Associate's degree is preferred and candidates should have 2+ years of experience with Building Automation Systems and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree preferred in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience working with Building Automation Systems.
  • 2+ years of basic understanding of mechanical systems.
  • 2+ years of basic understanding of building system engineering and technology.
  • 2+ years of basic understanding of building and construction materials, tools, and processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and test Building Automation System components to verify compliance with plans and detect malfunctions.
  • Diagnose, test, or analyze performance of system components and assemblies.
  • Create project graphics, wiring diagrams, and system dashboards for client approval.
  • Repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts and verify repairs.
  • Adjust system controls to manufacturer settings to balance the system and optimize performance.
  • Document time, materials, faults, and work performed; complete customer service reports.

Job Description

As a Building Automation System Specialist, you will primarily perform and develop sequence testing, create project graphics, and conduct point‑to‑point verification to ensure the system runs as efficiently as possible. You will work as part of a team at client or project job sites to ensure proper installation of controls systems and provide diagnostic and repair services.

Sequence Testing
  • Inspect and test systems to verify compliance with plans and specifications or to detect and locate malfunctions.
  • Inspect systems to determine if they are operating properly.
  • Ensure the proper installation of components.
  • Review plans, specifications, and design to understand project scope.
Point-to‑Point Verification
  • Test components for proper functioning.
  • Diagnose, test, or analyze the performance of system components, assemblies, or systems.
  • Set up and operate standard or specialized testing equipment.
  • Ensure sensor location and functionality.
Project Graphics
  • Create images for various wirings, designs, or system dashboards.
  • Present designs and reports to customers or design engineers or consultants for approval and discuss necessary modifications.
  • Design images/maps of controlled systems within a building.
Repairs/Service
  • Repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts.
  • Discuss heating or cooling system malfunctions with users to isolate problems or verify that repairs corrected the issues.
  • Recommend, develop, or perform preventive or general maintenance procedures such as cleaning, tightening terminals, or vacuuming control panels.
  • Advise others on issues related to repairs, installation, or equipment design.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions and make recommendations that improve efficiency or quality of operations.
Adjustments
  • Adjust system controls to manufacturer‑recommended settings to balance the system.
  • Adjust equipment, such as thermostats, to ensure optimal performance.
Documentation
  • Record and report time, materials, faults, deficiencies, or other unusual occurrences on work orders.
  • Complete customer service and expense reports.
  • Document operational activities.
  • Compile job documentation such as certificate of completion, customer training forms, training certificates, and punch lists.
  • Provide sketches or make drawing modifications as needed for accurate project documentation.
Training
  • Instruct individuals on how to properly and efficiently operate tools and equipment.
  • Help individuals understand how to effectively implement ideas.
  • Guide individuals through the work day to assist with any needed tasks.
  • Suggest new ways of doing or thinking about tasks to improve efficiency and quality of work.
What We're Looking For In You
  • Associate's degree preferred in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or a related field.
