Job summary

University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks a Controls & Refrigeration Systems Specialist to operate and maintain HVAC-R automation systems. You will work with BAS (Metasys) to calibrate, diagnose, repair, and replace DDC controls and related components, while assisting plumbers, electricians, and HVAC mechanics in system maintenance.

Applicants should have extensive HVAC/R experience, BAS knowledge, and the ability to read blueprints and schematics.

Qualifications

Valid Class D Driver’s license.
HVAC Training Certificate and 3 years’ experience with HVAC/R systems using DDC controls.
Metasys or BAS training with 3 years’ experience with HVAC/R systems.
Refrigeration Technician license with 3 years’ experience.
Journeyman Plumber or Electrical license with 3 years’ experience in HVAC/R operations.
Associate degree or higher in HVAC or DDC related technical discipline with 3 years’ experience.
Ability to read blueprints, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic diagrams.
Knowledge of safety practices and preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

Operate BAS with Metasys Extended Architecture to diagnose equipment issues.
Troubleshoot HVAC and controls; inform customers about BAS operation and local control.
Monitor spaces and equipment for alarms; initiate resolutions.
Adjust set-points and parameters for BAS-connected equipment under supervision.
Program schedules and overrides in BAS; ensure proper operation of equipment.
Maintain and replace pneumatic and electric actuators and related components.
Lead coordination with plumbers, electricians, HVAC mechanics and refrigeration techs.
Assist other trades in diagnosis, repair, and replacement of system components.
