Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is seeking a Builder’s Risk Underwriter for Construction, Engineering, or Project Finance background in New York City. Leverage field and project experience to underwrite major construction risks, with fast exposure to projects and live underwriting decisions within a high-performing team.

The role offers training in underwriting principles, portfolio management, and collaboration with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of practical project experience with understanding of how complex construction projects are planned, priced, contracted, scheduled, built and challenged in execution.
• Practical understanding of project delivery and how factors affect outcomes.
• Strong analytical judgment and attention to detail.

Responsabilités

• Review new construction project submissions and identify key technical, contractual, schedule, procurement, and site exposures.
• Evaluate drawings, schedules, budgets, geotechnical reports, contracts and risk materials to form a clear risk view.
• Structure insurance terms, pricing, limits, deductibles, and coverage positions for major projects.
• Negotiate with brokers and build long-term strategic relationships.
• Develop underwriting judgment within authority framework and team.
