Description:
Job Summary

The Budget Analyst I collaborates with faculty and staff to review monthly actual versus budget variances and works with management to analyze data for annual budget development. The Budget Analyst prepares all supporting schedules required to ensure accuracy.

Duties
  • Reviews weekly financial reports for designated areas to ensure that any necessary budget and journal entries are processed to maintain accuracy, liaising as required with colleagues and other departments
  • Communicates with staff regarding the monthly actual versus budget variances
  • Processes payroll reallocations as necessary, communicating with departments to resolve any queries or inconsistencies
  • Reviews and approves HR forms, calculating and processing the related budget entries
  • Reviews and manages the university's suspense cost center; creates and maintains new and existing cost centers; completes the annual inactivation process
  • Processes all budget and some GL journal adjustments
  • Reviews and inputs information regarding work-study positions for payroll to process; ensures that processes tied to benefits are accurate and that they are paid from the correct cost centers
  • Works with management to analyze data for the development of the annual budget, including preparing supporting schedules
  • Prepares month-end and year-end close

Required Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Experience:
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related job experience
License/Certification:
  • None required

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of basic Accounting and Budgeting principles, and the related trends, issues, and accepted practices.
Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; good customer care skills
  • Proficiency in using computer software, particularly MS Excel
Abilities:
  • Ability to apply critical thinking
  • Ability to organize and multitask
  • Ability to create reports
  • Ability to maintain concentrated attention on a project or task
Work Location and Physical Demands
Primary Work Location:
  • Works in an office environment
Physical Demands:
  • Work is performed in a typical, comfortable interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks
