Job summary

Montclair State University is seeking a Budget Analyst reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Budget and Planning. You will assist in implementing resource planning, allocating budgets, and supporting the budgeting process across the university.

Responsibilities include developing annual operating budgets, preparing submissions to the State of New Jersey, and providing analyses to the Board of Trustees. Strong Excel and budgeting systems experience are essential to success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field.
  • Minimum three years of experience in a budget, finance, or related department.
  • Knowledge of budget and statistical analysis.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with computer systems for finance and budgeting.
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts to a variety of employees in the University.

  • Assist with development of personnel and fringe budgets.
  • Assist with long-range financial projections including, but not limited to, scheduled debt service, personnel expense, tuition and enrollment, and other items.
  • Use a variety of data systems and spreadsheets to analyze student enrollment, personnel headcount and other statistical data that impact financials.
  • Use the University's financial system to create or approve budget journals and transfers.
  • Assist with the development of budgeting and reporting software used by Budget & Planning.
  • Work with Finance & Treasury department on allocations, budget closing, and year-end transfers.
  • Uphold and support existing University policies and procedures and make recommendations that enhance its business practices.
  • Serve on ad hoc committees and task forces, etc., as assigned.

SUMMARY

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field.

  • Minimum three years of experience in a budget, finance, or related department.

  • Knowledge of budget and statistical analysis.

  • Advanced Excel skills.

  • Experience with computer systems for finance and budgeting.

  • Ability to communicate financial concepts to a variety of employees in the University.

  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and learn new systems.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Master's degree in related field.

  • Experience working in a University or large non-profit setting.

  • Knowledge of Workday Financials.



SALARY RANGE

Salary Range $88,000.00-$93,000.00 Annually
