ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

JOB PURPOSE

AIS teachers inspire students from diverse backgrounds to become courageous leaders in a culturally responsive and restorative learning environment. We are a team of innovative educators dedicated to creating inquiry-based lessons that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. As part of the Buckhead Campus team, you’ll work with students in a 3K12 urban school setting incredible experiential learning opportunities in Atlanta.

Teachers at the Buckhead Campus benefit from strong support within a unified, dual-campus structure, working closely with a departmental leader (Group and/or Subject Leaders), a team of subject teachers at the Buckhead and Sandy Springs Campuses, and IB Coordinators. This collaborative environment enables a rich exchange of resources, expertise, and shared goals across both campuses.

This is a full-time 10-month position at the Buckhead Campus.

Note that the role requires periodic work during school breaks and holidays (e.g., production builds and technical preparation). Mutually agreed-upon leave in-lieu will replace work days required during school breaks and holidays.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Design and Deliver Safe, Professional Technical Theatre Experiences

• Coordinate the technical and production elements for all theatre performances (curricular and co-curricular), including scenery, lighting, projections, sound, and rigging.
• Hang, focus, program, and operate lighting, projection, video, and sound systems for school performances and special events.
• Lead technical execution for three major co-curricular productions annually: a Fall Production, a Winter Production, a Spring Production, and a Summer Camp.
• Attend rehearsals and supervise technical rehearsals and strikes as the technical lead.
  

2. Maintain Facilities and Manage Equipment

• Oversee and maintain performance and instructional spaces including the mainstage theatre, scene shop, studio/classroom, costume room, prop rooms and all storage areas.
• Organize and maintain all tools, materials, and equipment to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
• Coordinate equipment repairs and manage warranties; perform minor maintenance and upgrades as needed.
  

3. Budget, Planning, and Production Support

• Collaborate with theatre and arts faculty to prepare design plans and budget estimates for all performances.
• Participate in the development and administration of production budgets and oversee technical purchasing and rentals.
• Advise on hiring and supervision of temporary production staff and contractors as needed.
• Administer Contracts for Guest Artists, including contracted directors, designers and technical crew

4. Student Mentorship and Engagement

• Mentor and supervise students working on technical theatre crews and student designers in scenic, lighting, and sound design.
• Provide technical training and safety instruction to students on equipment, tools, and procedures.
• Serve as the faculty sponsor for the Tech Club, running weekly meetings and staffing student technicians for school productions and events.
  

5. Additional School Involvement

• Actively participate in the life of the arts department and school community.
• Attend department meetings, collaborate with other faculty members, and contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives as needed.
• Provide support or instruction aligned with technical theatre education depending on schedule and needs.

REQUIREMENTS

Educational Background & Professional Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in technical theatre, theatre production, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in technical theatre and/or K–12 or higher education setting preferred.
  
• Strong knowledge of theatre production, including set construction, lighting, sound design, rigging, and safety protocols.

Specialized Skills

• Proficiency with industry-standard equipment and software (ETC Lighting Systems, QLab, Vectorworks, etc.).
• Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and supervise students and technicians with a positive and inclusive approach.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work at heights, and perform hands-on technical labor in performance settings.
• Carpentry Skills
