Job summary

Acacia Network seeks an assistant in the education team to support a group of children and, when needed, assume teacher duties in their absence. The role is full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm, located on East 175th Street, Bronx, NY 10457.

The incumbent will help maintain classroom equipment, plan activities, and coordinate with staff to support Head Start programs and community resources, while interacting with families with professionalism.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Head Start philosophy and practices.
• Proof of physical examination with TB test and background checks as required.
• Willingness to cooperate with parents in education of children.
• Successful experience working in a team setting.
• Ability to work with a culturally diverse staff and families.
• Excellent oral and written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficient in computer use and telephone communication.

Responsibilities

• Share responsibility for maintaining classroom equipment and materials.
• Assist in planning and supervising the arrangement of classroom equipment and furniture.
• Support planning to maximize effective use of shared spaces within the center.
• Assist the teacher in incorporating community resources to enrich the program.
• Collaborate with staff to maintain a shared understanding of Head Start and sponsor agency.
• Promote professional growth through meetings and trainings.
• Follow protocols for communicating with parents about children and activities.
• Attend and participate in parent education groups and trainings as required.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding all information related to children and families.
• Assist with field trips and neighborhood/community activities.
• Support fire drills and attendance procedures.
• Provide classroom support across age groups, including non-potty trained children.
