Job summary

BronxWorks, located in Bronx, NY, seeks an Assistant Teacher to support early childhood learning. You will work with the Lead Teacher to implement curriculum, track progress, and maintain a safe, nurturing classroom for children aged 3–5.

The role requires a High School Diploma, some college credits in Early Childhood Education, and typically involves Head Start/UPK knowledge. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, with Monday–Friday scheduling and benefits including health and life insurance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Some college credits in Early Childhood Education preferred.
• CDA or 15 credits hours in Early Childhood Education required/preferred.
• Teacher Assistant Certification preferred.
• One year of prior Head Start or UPK teaching experience recommended.
• Bilingual English and Spanish is preferred; strong communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Teacher with maintaining records on each child’s progress and development.
• Assist Lead Teacher with implementing Head Start standards and program policies.
• Help plan and implement daily activities based on child development principles and curriculum.
• Assist with reviewing child progress and developing growth plans.
• Maintain a clean, safe, organized classroom environment.
• Promote positive relationships and self-esteem in children.
• Support inclusion of children with disabilities and special needs.
• Assist with field trips and home visits as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and participate in parent conferences.
