Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks a Bridge and Structural Design Engineer to support bridge projects through design, preservation, load rating, plan development, and technical support. Positions are located in East Baton Rouge Parish and report to Engineer 6.

The role focuses on applying engineering principles, coordinating projects, and ensuring compliance with standards while collaborating with internal/external partners.

Qualifications

• Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
• If licensed in states other than Louisiana, must obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment.
• Louisiana Professional Engineering licenses are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board (LAPELS).

Responsibilities

• Assists with bridge and structural design activities for transportation infrastructure projects.
• Reviews or prepares plans, calculations, specifications, estimates, and structural details.
• Performs or assists with bridge load ratings, structural evaluations, or bridge preservation activities.
• Provides technical support related to bridge rehabilitation, replacement, preservation, or new capacity projects.
• Coordinates with project managers, consultants, districts, construction staff, and other internal or external partners.
• Reviews bridge-related project documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
• Supports development or maintenance of design guidance, standards, procedures, or technical documents.
• Assists with emergency response or technical reviews involving bridge or structural concerns.
