Job summary
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks a Bridge and Structural Design Engineer to support highway projects through bridge design, preservation, load rating, plan development and technical support. Positions are located in East Baton Rouge Parish and report to Engineer 6.
Training is provided; permanent status follows certification progress. Applicants must be eligible for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate; issuance is by LAPELS.
Qualifications
- Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
- Temporary position while pursuing Engineer Intern certificate; permanent status denied to incumbents.
- Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board (LAPELS).

Responsibilities
- Assists with bridge and structural design activities for transportation infrastructure projects.
- Reviews or prepares plans, calculations, specifications, estimates, and structural details.
- Performs bridge load ratings and structural evaluations.
- Provides technical support related to bridge rehabilitation, replacement, preservation, or new capacity projects.
- Coordinates with project managers, consultants, districts, and construction staff.
