Job summary

The State of Illinois invites qualified applicants to apply for the Local Bridge Operations Group Engineer position. This Civil Engineer V role focuses on policy development, bridge design review, and local agency bridge management within the Office of Highways and Intermodal Project Implementation.

The position requires an IL Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer license with at least five years of civil engineering experience, plus NBIS and BrR knowledge preferable.

Qualifications

• Current IL Professional Engineer license or IL Structural Engineer license.
• Five years of civil engineering experience.
• Knowledge of NBIS, Illinois Bridge Manual, BrR software is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops and updates policies for design, construction, and maintenance of local agency bridges.
• Reviews bridge designs and hydraulic reports for major structures.
• Provides expertise in repair, rehabilitation, and permit load reviews.
• Instructs district and LPA personnel on bridge design, construction, and repair.
• Performs structural capacity analyses for overweight vehicles and resurfacing projects.
• Reviews consultant load ratings and ensures compliance with safety standards.
