Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a Crane Operator for the Bridge Maintenance Crew. You will operate cranes, drive piles, and assist in various bridge tasks across District 3, with an emphasis on safety, reporting, and zone control.

Responsibilities include preparing hazard analyses, conducting safety meetings, coordinating traffic devices, and handling heavy equipment like skid steers and boom trucks. A Class A CDL must be obtained within six months of starting.

Qualifications

• 3.5 years of related work experience or approved equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
• Must attain a Class A CDL within 6 months of placement.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform required safety tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate crane on a bridge maintenance crew and drive piles with attachments.
• Complete maintenance reports and conduct safety briefings before work.
• Coordinate traffic control setup for work zones per guidelines.
• Perform heavy equipment tasks such as skid steer and other duties as needed.
• Supervise crane assembly/disassembly and assist in emergency operations.
