Job summary

MoDOT's Central Office in Jefferson City seeks a Bridge Location and Layout Designer responsible for preliminary design and final layouts for highway structures, including bridges, culverts and retaining walls, and for widening and rehabilitation projects. The role involves hydraulic analysis, cost estimating, and ensuring adherence to state and federal guidelines.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited civil/structural engineering degree required.
• Engineer-in-Training exam completed.
• Five years of civil engineering experience with structural/highway design.
• Advanced degree in hydrology/hydraulics or soil mechanics may substitute for up to two years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs independent hydraulic and hydrologic analysis for stream crossing structures and geometric designs for grade separation structures in STIP.
• Evaluates alternatives and prepares comparative cost estimates for most practical design.
• Prepares bridge memorandums for new structures and rehabilitation projects for internal contracts.
• Liaises with state/federal agencies, consultants, contractors, fabricators, suppliers and utilities to obtain permits or agreements.
• Coordinates and reviews data with division and district personnel to obtain valley data, surveys and soundings.
