Job summary

Missouri Department of Transportation in Jefferson City is seeking a Senior Structural Designer to perform design computations and sketches for highway structures, including dynamic, hydraulic and seismic design, as well as widening and rehabilitation projects.

You will check work for conformity to standards, provide guidance to technicians and designers, determine material layouts and foundations, and prepare memoranda, provisions, and preliminary cost estimates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.
• Four years of experience in civil engineering with a demonstrated proficiency in structural design or engineering applications. An advanced degree may substitute for a maximum of two years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs structural design computations and sketches for highway structures, including dynamic, hydraulic and seismic design for new structures, widening and major rehabilitation, and staged construction.
• Checks design and detailing performed by others for conformance to standards and computational accuracy.
• Provides guidance to structural technicians and designers on constructability, codes, and design manuals.
• Determines material composition and layout to produce economical structural layouts and foundations.
• Prepares bridge memorandums, writes special provisions, and prepares preliminary cost estimates.
