Job summary

Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is seeking a Bridge Inspector I for District 1 in Lenox, MA. The role focuses on NBIS-compliant bridge inspections, data collection, and field assessments to keep the state's bridges safe for the traveling public.

Responsibilities include assisting the inspection team, performing calculations, coordinating details, and serving as Resident Engineer for contracts as needed. A signing bonus up to $5,000 is available for new hires.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, civil engineering experience in bridge inspection, construction, survey, design, or related fields.
• Substitutions allow a two-year bachelor’s degree or an associate degree with civil engineering major to count toward experience.
• A current Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist Bridge Inspection Team Leader with inspections of NBIS-compliant bridges.
• Inspect bridges per NBIS requirements and department policies.
• Conduct field work safely and in accordance with traffic protection standards.
• Perform calculations for estimating structural loss and traffic counts.
• Coordinate with police details and act as Resident Engineer for contracts as needed.
