Job summary

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges, is seeking a Civil Engineer I to manage inspection activities for fabrication of bridge components and to oversee shop drawings and welding procedures. The role requires coordinating with inspection agencies and ensuring compliance with engineering standards.

Preferred candidates have strong communication skills and a civil engineering background; a NYS Professional Engineer license is required, with a master’s degree

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
• A Master’s degree in civil engineering may substitute for one year of required experience.

Responsibilities

• Monitor off-site inspection for acceptance and verification during fabrication.
• Review shop drawings, weld procedures, fabrication and repair procedures.
• Evaluate Non-Destructive Testing procedures and results; work with relevant codes (AWS, NYSSCM, NYSPCCM, ASME, ASTM).
• Travel to fabrication plants in the US and Canada may be required.
