Job summary

The Department of Transportation in New York City seeks a Civil Engineer I to perform field visits, identify deficient structural conditions, and prepare design plans for bridges and related structures, ensuring compliance with codes and standards. You will prepare sketches and repair protocols and manage repair requests.

You will supervise repair coordination with external units and contractors, review preliminary drawings, and sign and seal official documents.

Qualifications

• Four years of full-time civil engineering experience.
• Valid New York State Professional Engineer license; current NYS PE registration required.
• Master's degree in civil engineering may substitute for one year of experience.
• Strong AutoCAD, Acrobat, and MS Office skills.
• Must be organized and able to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Perform field visits to identify deficient structural conditions.
• Conduct structural analysis and prepare design plans.
• Coordinate with DOT units, contractors, and external entities.
• Review drawings for future maintainability; sign and seal documents.
• May work evenings, nights, weekends.
