Job summary

WSP USA seeks a Structural Engineering Department Manager for the Michigan Operation. You will lead the structural engineering team within the Transportation Team, delivering high-quality design and overseeing projects from concept to completion.

This role focuses on growing the local structural design group while leveraging regional and national resources. Strong leadership, client relationship skills, and regulatory compliance are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • 15+ years of post-education experience in engineering and infrastructure design.
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and ability to manage staff.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight to bridge staff on plan development tasks, project scope, design changes and project budget and schedule.
  • Mentoring, training and development of bridge department staff.
  • Lead the most complex and largest scale structural engineering projects, managing budgets, hours, expenses and subcontractors.
  • Drive long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of structural engineering work.
  • Develop client relationships and identify additional business opportunities.
  • Lead proposals, pricing, and performance metrics for the engineering discipline.
  • Oversee contract negotiations and client meetings within the structures group.
  • Represent WSP at professional society meetings and conferences as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with all engineering, construction, and safety regulations.
