Job summary

WSP USA in Michigan is seeking a Structural Engineering Department Manager to lead the structural team within our Transportation and infrastructure projects. You will grow the local design group while supported by regional and national practice, ensuring high-quality deliverables and client satisfaction.

You will provide SME leadership, oversee budgets, schedules, and staff development, and drive long-term growth across the engineering discipline.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
• 15+ years of relevant post-education experience in structural/civil and infrastructure design
• Engineer license required (multi-state preferred)
• Ability to lead multiple large-scale programs, documents, and projects across business lines
• Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills with staff management ability
• Strategic thinking with analytical skills and attention to detail
• Ability to coordinate with senior management, clients, and staff across levels

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight to bridge staff on plan development tasks, project scope, design changes and budget/schedule
• Mentor and develop bridge department staff
• Lead complex structural engineering projects, manage budgets, hours, expenses, and subcontractors
• Provide leadership to assigned managers and staff
• Drive long-term strategy and pipeline development of structural work in the region
• Develop client relationships and identify business development opportunities
• Oversee proposals, pricing, and project scopes for engineering disciplines
• Represent the firm at professional meetings and conferences
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
