Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Technical Director, Bridge Engineer to join our Tempe transportation team. You will lead design efforts, mentor engineers, and drive complex bridge projects from concept through construction while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

You will provide subject-matter leadership for asset management, rehabilitation, and new design projects, coordinating with state and local agencies and clients to deliver innovative, safe solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in structural or civil eng. required.
• 12+ years of post-education experience in structural/civil and infra design.
• Professional Engineer license (multi-state preferred).
• AZ license or reciprocity ability preferred.
• Advanced proficiency with structural engineering principles and bridge design.
• Strong knowledge of construction laws, codes and compliance.
• Experience leading complex structural projects and budgets.
• Ability to mentor staff and lead cross-functional teams.
• Proven safety record and adherence to policies.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and supervise bridge projects and teams.
• Guide mid-level engineers and CAD technicians through design and plan production.
• Apply advanced structural techniques to develop concept through final design.
• Manage budgets, hours, and expenses; supervise subcontractors and staff.
• Coordinate with district structures management and external agencies.
• Develop timelines, pricing, and project metrics for compliance.
• Mentor staff for growth and professional development.
• Stay current with latest structural engineering practices.
• Collaborate across disciplines to deliver client-ready solutions.
