Job summary

BNSF Railway is hiring for a Construction - Structural Maintenance Bridge and Building Helper/Driver in Ottumwa or La Crosse, WI. This full-time role involves constructing, inspecting, and maintaining bridges and buildings, with travel to job sites and a 60-day probation.

Training is provided on-the-job and in the classroom. The position requires a Class A CDL (or ability to obtain within 60 days), safety-focused work, and ability to lift up to 90 pounds.

Qualifications

• Must have valid Class A CDL or obtain within 60 days.
• 21 years old or older.
• Able to work safely in the described conditions.
• Able to read, write and communicate in English.
• Able to lift up to 90 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction, maintenance, and repairing of railroad bridges, tunnels, culverts, and other structures.
• Repair timber bridges, trestles, and tunnel supports, and repair/replace structural steel members of bridges.
• Place and finish concrete surfaces and perform conventional carpentry work.
• Read blueprints to determine materials and dimensions, lay out work, and mark cutting and assembly lines.
• Assemble, cut, shape materials, fastening with appropriate fasteners, rigging materials for hoisting, and operate company vehicles as directed.
