Job summary

BNSF Railway is hiring for an Engineering Department role in Quincy, IL, focusing on construction, inspection and maintenance of bridges and buildings. The position is full-time (40 hrs/wk) with on-call, overtime, nights, weekends and holidays. Travel to job sites is required for extended periods, with company-paid training at the BNSF Training Center.

Relocation assistance is not available; a 60-day probationary period applies. Union membership and benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• Must have valid Class A CDL or obtain within 60 days of employment.
• Able to work safely in various weather conditions and at heights with fall protection.
• Able to read, write and communicate in English and follow oral instructions clearly.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction, maintenance, and repair of railroad bridges, tunnels, culverts and other structures.
• Repair timber bridges, trestles, tunnel supports, and structural steel members.
• Place and finish concrete surfaces and perform conventional carpentry work.
• Read blueprints to determine materials, dimensions, and layouts.
• Assemble, cut, shape materials, rig and hoist, operate company vehicles as directed.
• Work in a safety-sensitive environment with exposure to extreme weather, noise, fumes, and heavy machinery.
