Job summary

City of Abilene, Texas is seeking a Lactation Peer Counselor - TE to support WIC mothers under the Lactation Coordinator and Nutrition Program Manager. This temporary role provides breastfeeding education, addresses challenges, and referrals to specialists as needed.

Responsibilities include counseling, documenting services, issuing breast pumps, and coordinating follow-up with mothers at home, hospital, or clinic, while promoting breastfeeding in the community and participating in outreach

Qualifications

• Experience breastfeeding or expressing breast milk for at least one child.
• Experience participating in the WIC program or having participated in the past.
• Completion of the USDA 20-hour Loving Support training within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual counseling with pregnant and breastfeeding women in the clinic, on the phone, in the hospital or at the client’s home.
• Accurately and clearly document all services provided in the computer system.
• Issue breast pumps and teach proper procedures for use and care.
