Job summary

Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County in Ephrata, PA seeks a part-time Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to provide information and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding participants within the WIC program.

The role emphasizes breastfeeding promotion, ongoing support, and facilitation of classes and group activities. Experience with breastfeeding and basic program outreach are valued, with a strong commitment to work-life balance and community health.

Qualifications

• Personal breastfeeding experience required (at least one baby)
• High school diploma or GED required
• WIC participation preferred

Responsibilities

• Breastfeeding Promotion: provide basic information such as benefits and position/latch; maintain contact with pregnant participants to encourage initiation; address barriers to breastfeeding success
• Breastfeeding Support: support new mothers, empower breastfeeding journey, provide breast pump instruction
• Classes and Support Groups: assist with or lead breastfeeding classes for pregnant participants; facilitate support groups; share program information with community partners; attend events to raise awareness of the peer counseling program
• Outreach/Referrals: provide information to partners; refer to lactation consultants, medical providers, and public health programs; coordinate care within scope of practice; perform other related duties as assigned
