UAB St. Vincent’s in Birmingham, AL seeks a dedicated Radiology Department coordinator to manage imaging orders and documentation for breast exams and related procedures. Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from an approved school of Radiologic Technology and/or Sonography.
  • Minimum of two years of mammography or sonography experience.
  • BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire date.
  • ARDMS credentialed prior to hire date.
  • ARRT Radiologic Technologist credentialed prior to hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate procurement of prior imaging documentation for diagnostic breast exams and invasive breast exams; ensure complete orders.
  • Serve as a technical resource; train staff; follow departmental policies and regulatory standards; maintain communication with clinical team.
  • Print orders and reports for upcoming diagnostic imaging, including mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI.
  • Obtain corrected orders from referring physicians' offices when needed.
  • Follow procedures for invasive procedures, including localizations, stereotactic biopsies, ultrasound biopsies, and MRI biopsies.
  • Call biopsy patients two days before scheduled appointment to provide prep instructions and verify anticoagulant status.
  • Work with front desk to ensure patient education is provided for screening mammogram patients with breast symptoms.
  • Assist lead mammographer with entering pathology results into mammography reporting software.
  • Fill in for staff mammographers when needed; perform breast ultrasound exams with diagnostic quality; assist with biopsies as required.

What You Will Do

Coordinates the procurement of prior imaging documentation for diagnostic breast exams and invasivebreast exams as well as ensuring that complete orders are in the system.

1. Serves as a technical resource; trains staff as needed. Ensures departmental policies and applicable regulatory standards are followed. Creates and maintains frequent communication and positive relationships with clinical team members.

2. Print Orders and reports for all upcoming diagnostic imaging to include patients scheduled for mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI.

3. Obtain corrected orders from the referring physician’s offices if correct orders are not available.

4. A similar process will be followed for all invasive procedures. This includes localizations, stereotactic biopsies, ultrasound biopsies, and MRI biopsies.

5. Call all biopsy patients two days before their scheduled appointment time to give prep instructions and verify that the patient is not on blood thinners and answer any questions that the patient has related to the procedure.

6. Work with the front desk staff to ensure that patient education is given for patients that arrive for a screening mammogram and indicate that they have breast symptoms. Also, attempt to obtain a diagnostic order in the situations where one is needed.

7. Work with lead mammographer to assist in entering pathology results on biopsies that are Page 2 of 3 performed here into the mammography reporting software.

8. As time allows, fill in for staff mammographers when someone is on PTO and no PRN coverage is available. Performs breast ultrasound exams efficiently while maintaining diagnostic quality set foreth department procedure manual. Demonstrates knowledge of ultrasound equipment pertinent to patients’ needs. Provides mental and physical comfort to patient. Maintains accountability for a safe environment for patients and others. Displays a professional demeanor at all times. Assists with biopsies as needed.

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need

Education:

Associate's degree from an approved school of Radiologic Technology and/or Sonography required. Minimum of two years of mammography or sonography experience required.

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
