Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Radiologic Technologist specialized in mammography to provide imaging services in a fast-paced department. You will operate mammography equipment, position patients, explain the importance of regular breast health screenings, and ensure high-quality images are submitted to PACS.

The role requires adherence to radiation safety and may include DEXA scans when applicable. Minimum requirements include accreditation in Radiologic Technology, timely BLS, and credentialing

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology.
  • BLS certification within 1 month of hire date.
  • Bone Density Certification may be required within 6 months of hire.
  • Cardiographic Tech (CCI) or ARDMS or ARRT credentials required prior to hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mammography equipment and perform procedures; position patients and select parameters.
  • Explain procedures and educate patients on the role of regular mammography for breast health.
  • Develop and evaluate film quality for density, contrast, definition and distortion.
  • Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure high-quality image submission to PACS with correct markers and data.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and ensure department cleanliness and organization.
  • May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment if applicable.

Job Description

Provide mammography imaging services.

  • Operate equipment and perform various mammography related procedures. Prepare and position patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
  • Explain procedures and educates patients about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health.
  • Develop and evaluate the film for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion.
  • Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
  • Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department
  • May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.
Qualifications
Licensure / Certification / Registration
  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Bone Density Certification may be required within 6-months of hire or transfer date (if applicable)
  • One or more of the following required:
    • Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date
    • Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
    • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Minimum Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required
