Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Radiology Ultrasound Technologist to perform diagnostic ultrasound exams, operate equipment, and ensure image quality. The role supports inpatient and outpatient imaging in a fast-paced environment at St. Vincent's East.

The candidate will follow safety standards, maintain equipment, and document patient data for PACS submissions. A strong team-oriented approach and ongoing cross-training are encouraged.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 2 years experience or an Associate's/Technical degree.
• ARDMS and BLS certifications required or obtainable after hire.
• RV T certification due within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic ultrasound exams and captures high-quality images for interpretation.
• Operates ultrasound equipment and adjusts transducers for exams.
• Ensures safety standards and quality control.
• Documents patient data/history and submits images to PACS.
• Maintains a clean, organized department and reports equipment issues.

Job Description

Performs diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine tissue and body structure, providing quality images for interpretation.

• Sets up and adjusts all equipment and manually maneuvers transducers to perform exams.
• Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures.
• Performs routine and complex studies and assists in a variety of imaging procedures.
• Recognizes significant structures, artifacts, pathology and equipment limitations.
• Ensures equipment is properly functioning. Reports potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel. Lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.
• Ensures prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
• Assists in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.
• Maintains compliance with regulatory agencies.

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
• Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) at time of hire.
• Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) within 6 months required.

Education

• High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Technical degree required.
