Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a part-time Ultrasound Technologist to perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations and produce high-quality images for interpretation. The role involves setting up equipment, adjusting transducers, and adhering to safety standards while contributing to a fast-paced inpatient and outpatient imaging environment.

Responsibilities include image submission to PACS, equipment maintenance, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with some clinical experience preferred.
  • ARDMS certification and RVT credentialing requirements noted in job posting.
  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association within 30 days of hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations and provide high-quality images for interpretation.
  • Set up and adjust ultrasound equipment; maneuver transducers to obtain required views.
  • Follow safety standards and conduct quality control procedures.
  • Recognize structures, artifacts, and pathology; report equipment issues promptly.
  • Ensure prompt submission of images to PACS with correct patient data and markers.
  • Maintain a clean, organized department and comply with regulatory requirements.

Part-time - 7:00am-3:30pm - no call - no weekends

  • Wk 1 Thursday and Friday
  • Wk 2 Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday
  • PRN
  • Days - 8:30am to 5pm
  • Work Location: UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham

Our radiology team includes certified specialists and provides advanced imaging services across fast-paced inpatient and outpatient environments. Job Description

Perform diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine tissue and body structure, providing quality images for interpretation.

  • Sets up and adjusts all equipment and manually maneuvers transducers to perform exams.
  • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures.
  • Performs routine and complex studies and assists in a variety of imaging procedures.
  • Recognizes significant structures, artifacts, pathology and equipment limitations.
  • Ensures equipment is properly functioning. Reports potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel. Lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.
  • Ensures prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory agencies.
Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) at time of hire.
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) within 6 months required.
Education
  • High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Technical degree required.
