Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL seeks a Radiology Coordinator for diagnostic breast imaging support. Coordinates procurement of prior imaging docs, ensures complete orders, trains staff, and maintains communication with clinical teams.

Responsibilities include printing orders and reports for mammography, breast ultrasound, and MRI; obtaining corrected orders; assisting with biopsies; and providing patient prep instructions.

Qualifications

  • BLS Provider within 1 month of hire date.
  • ARDMS or ARRT credential prior to hire.
  • Associate’s degree required.
  • Minimum two years of mammography or sonography experience.

Job Description

Coordinates the procurement of prior imaging documentation for diagnostic breast exams and invasive breast exams as well as ensuring that complete orders are in the system.

  • Serves as a technical resource; trains staff as needed. Ensures departmental policies and applicable regulatory standards are followed. Creates and maintains frequent communication and positive relationships with clinical team members.
  • Print Orders and reports for all upcoming diagnostic imaging to include patients scheduled for mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI.
  • Obtain corrected orders from the referring physician’s offices if correct orders are not available.
  • A similar process will be followed for all invasive procedures. This includes localizations, stereotactic biopsies, ultrasound biopsies, and MRI biopsies.
  • Call all biopsy patients two days before their scheduled appointment time to give prep instructions and verify that the patient is not on blood thinners and answer any questions that the patient has related to the procedure.
  • Work with the front desk staff to ensure that patient education is given for patients that arrive for a screening mammogram and indicate that they have breast symptoms. Also, attempt to obtain a diagnostic order in the situations where one is needed.
  • Work with lead mammographer to assist in entering pathology results on biopsies that are Page 2 of 3 performed here into the mammography reporting software.
  • As time allows, fill in for staff mammographers when someone is on PTO and no PRN coverage is available. Performs breast ultrasound exams efficiently while maintaining diagnostic quality set forth in department procedure manual. Demonstrates knowledge of ultrasound equipment pertinent to patients’ needs. Provides mental and physical comfort to patient. Maintains accountability for a safe environment for patients and others. Displays a professional demeanor at all times. Assists with biopsies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:
  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • One of the following:
    • Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
    • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Minimum Requirements
  • Associate's degree from an approved school of Radiologic Technology and/or Sonography required.
  • Minimum of two years of mammography or sonography experience required.
