The Brandywine Zoo, managed by Delaware State Parks, is seeking a seasonal Grounds Keeper to maintain the grounds, buildings, and non-animal spaces. Responsibilities include landscaping, custodial work, event support, and public interaction with visitors.
Ideal candidates will be at least 18, experienced with landscaping tools, and able to drive. Weekend/evening availability and ability to work outdoors in various weather are required.
The Brandywine Zoo is managed by Delaware State Parks with the support of the Delaware Zoological Society. This quaint facility is home to a variety of species of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. At Brandywine Zoo, visitors return again and again to see our animals in natural settings.
This seasonal year-round, Zoo Grounds Keeper position will be responsible for maintaining the grounds, buildings, and non-animal spaces in the Zoo. This includes but is not limited to horticulture and landscaping (planting, weeding, pruning, watering, mowing, etc.), seasonal weather preparation and cleanup (leaf removal, snow, and ice clearing), event support (set up, break down, etc.), building upkeep (pressure washing, cleaning gutters, vacuuming, restroom cleaning, and refuse removal), maintaining supplies and equipment, and public interaction as a member of Zoo staff. Other duties may include assisting with deliveries, minor repairs, and other duties as assigned. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. This position is required to operate light duty equipment such as hand trucks, mowers, and various lawn equipment. Applicants must be available to work some weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
