Job summary

The Brandywine Zoo grounds keeper position at DNREC is responsible for maintaining the grounds, buildings, and non-animal spaces, including landscaping, seasonal weather prep, and event support. Work is done indoors and outdoors; light equipment operation is required.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have experience with landscaping equipment and hand/tools, plus a valid driver’s license. Weekend/evening/holiday work may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience operating landscaping equipment (mowers, trimmers, etc.).
• Ability to perform grounds maintenance and custodial tasks.
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Mows, trims, maintains landscape beds, removes trash, and clears snow/ice.
• Performs custodial tasks in restrooms, offices and buildings.
• Maintains public restroom upkeep and handles trash transport to disposal area.
• Operates landscaping equipment and hand/power tools.
• Sets up and cleans up for Zoo programs and events.
• Maintains good public relations with visitors and staff.
