Job summary

The Brandywine Zoo, managed by Delaware State Parks, seeks a seasonal Zoo Grounds Keeper to maintain the grounds, buildings, and non-animal spaces in the Zoo, outdoors and indoors under varied weather conditions.

Responsibilities include mowing, landscaping, snow/ice clearing, custodial work, restroom upkeep, event set-up and break-down, and delivering friendly public service to visitors; prior experience with landscaping equipment is preferred.

Qualifications

• 18+ years of age required.
• Experience using landscaping equipment and hand or power tools.
• Valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled).

• Set-up, monitoring and clean-up support for Zoo programs and events.
• Maintains good public relations with visitors and staff.
• Provide excellent customer service and Zoo information to visitors.

Job description

Introduction

The Brandywine Zoo is managed by Delaware State Parks with the support of the Delaware Zoological Society. This quaint facility is home to a variety of species of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. At Brandywine Zoo, visitors return again and again to see our animals in natural settings.

Summary Statement

This seasonal year-round, Zoo Grounds Keeper position will be responsible for maintaining the grounds, buildings, and non-animal spaces in the Zoo. This includes but is not limited to horticulture and landscaping (planting, weeding, pruning, watering, mowing, etc.), seasonal weather preparation and cleanup (leaf removal, snow, and ice clearing), event support (set up, break down, etc.), building upkeep (pressure washing, cleaning gutters, vacuuming, restroom cleaning, and refuse removal), maintaining supplies and equipment, and public interaction as a member of Zoo staff. Other duties may include assisting with deliveries, minor repairs, and other duties as assigned. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions.

Essential Functions

Job Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Experience using landscaping equipment and hand or power tools.
• Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
