Job summary

Livingston Parish Library is seeking a dedicated and experienced Branch Manager to oversee staff, facilities, and patron services at the Livingston parish branch. The role combines hands-on leadership with strategic program development in a community-focused library.

The position calls for an MLIS and 2+ years of professional library experience, with preferred 5+ years in public libraries and supervisory responsibilities. Generous benefits accompany the full-time schedule.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in library science (MLIS) required.
• Two+ years of professional library work experience required.
• Preferred: five+ years in a public library, event programing experience, supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Daily oversight of branch operational integrity.
• Train and retrain staff in policies and procedures.
• Create staff schedules for optimal coverage.
• Motivate, coach, discipline, and evaluate staff.
• Ensure payroll, leave records, forms, and statistics are submitted accurately.
• Maintain knowledge of library policies and trends.
• Interpret policies and resolve staff and patron grievances.
• Facilitate branch money reports and secure onsite funds.
• Monitor and report building and grounds maintenance.
• Participate in Leadership Team meetings and committees.
• Weed and manage branch collections; coordinate with heads of departments.
• Coordinate events with Community Engagement and support systemwide events.
• Lead large community events (Comic Con, Book Festival, Summer Reading).
• Meet regularly with coordinators to ensure quality events and service delivery.
• Oversee art displays and rotating exhibits.
• Respond to incidents and emergencies at the branch.
