Job summary

Mid-Continent Public Library is seeking a Branch Manager II for a full-time role in Kansas City, MO. You will lead a large branch or multiple small branches, modeling exceptional customer service and implementing library directions across supervision, policy, programs, and collection maintenance.

The position requires a Master’s in Library Science, 3+ years of supervisory experience, and experience in library operations. You will oversee hiring, safety training, and customer engagement daily.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program is required.
• Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years library experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervises branch staff of 15–35 employees and plans workloads.
• Manages branch budget and procurement; coordinates with vendors and HR.
• Leads hiring process for 5–10 new hires annually and prepares onboarding.
• Develops and delivers staff training on safety, service, and operations.
• Collaborates with staff to plan programming and outreach initiatives.
• Regularly engages with customers on the service floor to model and coach excellent service.
