Job summary

Mid-Continent Public Library in Blue Springs, MO seeks an Assistant Branch Manager II to lead a busy library branch and deliver outstanding service to staff and customers. You will guide supervision, policy interpretation, and program execution while keeping up with current library trends.

Role requires strong leadership, training, hiring, and collaboration with the Associate Director for Public Service to optimize access and user experience for the community.

Qualifications

• Advanced verbal, written, and discreet communication with management, coworkers, and the public.
• Ability to collaborate with leadership to develop and manage budgets.
• Maintain effective relationships with multiple stakeholders.
• Reliable, punctual, and flexible with scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a branch staff of up to 35 and coordinate with branch managers.
• Disseminate information promptly to all staff members and train on mission-enhancing service.
• Assess performance and provide coaching or disciplinary action when needed.
• Assist with hiring 5–10 new hires annually and onboard with related departments.
• Oversee collection merchandizing, layout planning, and vendor coordination.
• Ensure safety on the customer service floor and during after-hours issues.
