Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at GL-5/7 levels in New Hire Sign-On and Retention Incentives.

The role offers government benefits, a clear career ladder, and may require relocation to prioritized duty locations in the Southwest and beyond. Selected candidates are eligible for a recruitment incentive up to $20,000 and retention incentives up to $40,000 within the first four years.

Qualifications

• Citizenship: You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position.
• Residency: You must have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
• Age Restriction: Applicants must be referred before reaching the 40th birthday.
• Formal training: After hire, you will attend the USBP Academy in Artesia, NM for six months of instruction.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspect documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near the borders.
• Interpret and follow tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry.
• Perform farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
• Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using available assets to fulfill the USBP mission.
