Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) GL-5/GL-7 in a sign-on and retention incentive program. Positions offer full-time federal employment, comprehensive benefits, and a structured career ladder from GL-5 to GS-12.

Newly appointed agents may receive recruitment incentives up to $20,000 and retention incentives up to $40,000 over four years. Duty locations include multiple Southwest border stations with relocation possible.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating leadership and the ability to learn regulations and procedures.
• Bachelor’s degree or full four-year course of study from an accredited institution.
• Combination of experience and education considered as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties as a Border Patrol Agent with emphasis on safeguarding borders and enforcing laws.
• Interpret and apply immigration and customs regulations; conduct inspections and document reviews.
• Respond to incidents, patrol assignments, and emergencies as part of a federal law enforcement team.
• Attend Border Patrol Academy for required training and certification.
• Progress through a grade level ladder (GL-5 to GL-7) with promotion opportunities after training periods.
